Presenters
Ant’s research career focuses on using novel interventions (for example; nutrition or extreme environments) to improve metabolic and cardiovascular health, quality of life and physical function. Ultimately, his research revolves around patient benefit. He is also interested in understanding the pathophysiology of specific chronic diseases in order to elucidate any potential therapeutic strategies.
Joe is currently the Associate Head of Research and Innovation in the School of Sport, Health and Exercise Science.
He joined the Çà¹ÏÊÓƵ, initially as a Postdoctoral Fellow in 2015 before being appointed as a Lecturer in Exercise Physiology in 2016, and then Senior Lecturer in 2017. Prior to joining the School, Joe completed his PhD at the University of Limerick, Ireland (2008-2012) and three years of Postdoctoral research at Queensland University of Technology, Australia (2012-2015).
Joe’s primary research interests are directed toward understanding the physiological effects of various stressors (e.g. heat, cold, and hypoxia) on human performance. He has a particular interest in exploring the mechanisms responsible for a decrement in performance, both physical and cognitive, following exposure to these extreme environments.
